Journalist Michael Behar has followed Urban Organics for two years, and Outside Magazine published his insights in February 2019. The article, “Urban Organics Wants To Fix Food,” presents an in-depth look at the aquaponics operation in St. Paul and reports on what it calls an “locavore’s dream,” an urban farm capable of producing 16,000 pounds of greens a week. Urban Organics co-founder Fred Haberman is quoted as saying that a key goal of this hyper local food production model is to “to decentralize the food system and eradicate hunger. And to prove that you can take a distressed physical asset like a brewery and make it part of turning a neighborhood around.”
